There’s no way I could justifying spending $1500 on a phone but I still want one.

Even though it avoids the ugly crease, it still seems like it’s going to have issues with dust intrusion.

The hinge on that phone is still better than the hinge app.

I said the same when iPhone hit $1,000, yet many of the loudest “I have no money!” people I know seem to own them.
0% interest for 2 years with most carriers definitely makes it more affordable, at least.

With people spending $1000+ on flagships, I don’t think it’s a reach to say some people will be ok with the price.

its cool...but i don’t see how this solves any problems or makes the phones demonstrably better in any way.

I like it but I bet that hinge is as loose as an abused laptop screen in 3,2,1 ...

New razr vs “nostalgia” (from a conversation i was having w/ a coworker) :
But unlike pokemon, there hasn’t been a new version of the razr every couple years since it was first debuted. Pokemon has momentum and history. Razr only has nostalgia. And even then, it’s a completely different experience than the original razr. This thing is a fatty compared to the original. It’s a clever design, absolutely, and the shape is reminiscent of the original razr... but the razr was named that because it was so incredibly thin. This is no thinner than a regular smartphone in it’s opened state (discounting that enormous chin entirely)... and folded it’s twice as thick as a smartphone.
And the price is fucking insulting.

This has absolutely nothing to do with practicality.

Maybe for girls with short pockets? I really don’t know.
At 14 mm, it’s 6 mm thicker than the latest iPhone.
The screen is protected from scratches while it’s closed, so there’s that.
Will be interested to see if they sell at all. From the review, it has a slower processor and a crappier camera than the latest stuff.

It’s actually not fatter than the original (I thought the same thing).

100% agree. Though I would have a hard time parting with 1500 dollars for “because different”

The screen is actually a scratch farm when closed, because now every abrasive speck now has 2 surfaces and some pressure to work with.

I'm still waiting on a rollable phone so I can have a nice small cylinder. Still, it's neat to see this tech being pushed. It really wasn't that long ago nokias were ubiquitous...

Ever since I got my 8+, I basically forgot new Androids existed. I think I’ve seen three Galaxy S10’s ever.

That is the right way to fold a screen. Price is CP. I can buy a good condition Isuzu Impulse for less.

I see too many people walking around with shattered screens to believe this is the kind of phone innovation we really need.
Waiting for the sliders to come back though. I still have my LG Chocolate in a drawer for comparison’s sake.

I love it!
I think it could be a massive hit if they had priced it in line with current flagships ($1,100 or so?). It would have ended up exactly like the original RAZR, which was also woefully weak and outdated feature-wise when it came out, but succeeded because of the gorgeous form factor and I would argue limited competition in the US . We’re also at a point where more and more people are realizing they don’t need this year’s flagship specs.
The original RAZR
was pretty much the exact same specs as the V600 and a million other Motorola phones that came before it. 0.3 MP camera, no flash, horrible UI, etc.
This was before the iPhone days
but
,
at least outside the US, people were walking around with much more serious hardware than that.
I’d argue something like a Sony Ericsson T610 was already as
powerful and had the same features
a RAZR V3. I
think by the RAZR days the SE
K750 was already out with a 2.0 MP camera with autofocus and a dual LED flash. Not to mention the Nokia N93 or HTC TyTN. The
US was
getting
shafted
because of using
different frequencies and the top dogs minus Motorola being European or Asian, so I think you only got the RAZR out of all those. Regardless, the RAZR overcame a much bigger feature gap than this new version. I’m just not sure about the price.
